Twitter goes bonkers as Tommy Fleetwood fires final-round 63

Tommy Fleetwood during the final round of the 2018 U.S. Open

Tommy Fleetwood was unconscious Sunday at Shinnecock Hills during the final round of the 2018 U.S. Open.

Taking full advantage of some extremely favorable conditions, thanks to an about-face by the USGA following a disastrous Round 3, Fleetwood fired a final-round 63.

This score earned him a place in history, as it was the sixth 63 in U.S. Open history.

We knew Fleetwood was hot when he ripped off four birdies in six holes on the opening nine. A lone bogey at No. 9 itself seemed to indicate he might cool off a bit. But then Fleetwood went absolutely bonkers on the back nine, scoring four birdies in a row starting on No. 12.

This scoring bonanza put Fleetwood right up there with the leaders at the time.

He went on to par the final three holes as his putter got a bit cold at the end. But his final round will certainly be one we’ll remember for a long, long time.

Twitter went bananas watching Fleetwood make Shinnecock Hills into his own personal birdie paradise Sunday.
