Minnesota Twins right fielder Alex Kirilloff injures ankle vs. Yankees

Minnesota Twins right fielder Alex Kirilloff exited Thursday’s game against the visiting New York Yankees with a sprained left ankle.

Kirilloff, 23, appeared to sustain the injury while tracking down a ball hit off the wall by Gio Urshela in the first inning. He struggled to quickly run after the ball and get it back to the infield, allowing Urshela to coast in for the triple.

Kirilloff singled in the bottom half of the first inning before being replaced prior to the second by Gilberto Celestino, who moved over from center field. Nick Gordon entered the game and played center field.

Kirilloff, a former first-round pick, is hitting .261 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 31 games this season. He also missed 16 games from May 5-21 with a sprained right wrist.
