The Jacksonville Jaguars head into tonight’s Thursday Night Football matchup in fairly good shape, sitting atop the AFC South, but only by one game. There’s also a certain level of uncertainty surrounding the availability of starting QB Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence played nearly the entirety of the Jaguars’ Week 6 37-20 win over Indianapolis, but he got hurt taking a 17-yard sack near the end of the game. The Jaguars QB got up limping, leading to backup C.J. Beathard taking the field in relief of Lawrence. With the clock nearly expired, Beathard only had to come in to kneel out the remainder of the game clock.
Later in the day, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed Lawrence was dealing with a knee sprain, but it was not deemed to be “significant.” Lawrence was then seen with a knee brace during Tuesday’s practice, with reports that he was “very likely” to start Thursday’s Week 7 battle against the New Orleans Saints.
On Tuesday, Lawrence stated he was “optimistic” he’d be able to play this week. Today, Lawrence backed up his previous statement by saying he’s “confident” he’ll be in the lineup.
Now Schefter states that the Jaguars plan to run their QB through a pre-game workout to determine his availability for tonight’s matchup. For now, the NFL insider’s sources state “it could easily be a game-time decision” for Lawrence. If he cannot play, Beathard will once again resume QB duties for the Jaguars.
