The Georgia Bulldogs have found themselves a new starting running back with the team preparing for its Orange Bowl outing against Florida State.

Per Hayes Fawcett of On3.com, star young ball-carrier Trevor Etienne has transfered from the Florida Gators to Georgia after his sophomore season.

This represents a major coup for Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart. The brother of Jacksonville Jaguars star Travis Etienne, this young man performed extremely well through his two seasons with the Gators.

A four-star recruit in the class of 2022 out of Louisiana, Etienne originally commited to Florida after visiting with Clemson, Alabama, LSU and Penn State. He was considered the No. 1 running back in the transfer portal before opting to head to the Georgia Bulldogs.

“I think Trevor has been great for the Gators,” Florida head coach Billy Napier told reporters after Etienne entered the transfer portal. “That’s what I would say. I’ve got nothing but respect for Trevor–his attitude, his practice habits, his contribution to the team. Nothing but respect.”

Georgia’s top two running backs, Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton, are both seniors. While they do have a year of eligibility remaining, it’s not yet known whether both will be returning for the 2024 season.

This makes the addition of Etienne extremely important for Smart and Co. Georgia did add four-star recruit Roderick Robinson II from Southern California in the Class of 2023. He will likely split duties with Etienne moving forward.

As for the young running back, his brother was a first-round pick of the Jaguars in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Clemson. The older Etienne has been simply sensational for the Jaguars. That includes going for 1,248 yards and 10 touchdowns in 14 games leading up to Jacksonville’s Week 16 outing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
