The Kansas City Chiefs are set to defend their championship against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII this coming Sunday.

As we have seen with other successful teams, the ability to contend on the game’s grandest of stages will also lead to others looking to poach your assistant coaches.

That’s apparently the case with Kansas City. According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, defensive line coach Joe Cullen is receiving a ton of interest as a potential defensive coordinator.

In addition to the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, that includes the Michigan Wolverines.

Cullen, 56, has served in his current role with the Chiefs over the past two seasons. He was the Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive coordinator back in 2021. The respected veteran defensive mind got his first gig in the NFL with the Detroit Lions in 2006. He certainly has a wealth of experience.

Former Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter opted to take the same job with Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers. That leaves a major hole for new Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore to fill.

As for the Chiefs, they landed in Las Vegas on Sunday in the lead up to the Super Bowl on Feb. 11. Nothing will be done on this front until after the game is played. But for now, it appears that Cullen is a wanted man.
