Tony Romo MRI ‘came back looking good’

Tony Romo cake

Tony Romo’s back injury is healing nicely. According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Romo’s MRI looks good and his throwing program is continuing as scheduled.

This news seems to go hand-in-hand with the Cowboys’ recent goal to have Romo back by Week 8.

Now, of course, that raises another question. When Romo is healthy, will he play?

Dallas has a bye in Week 7. So, the Cowboys have only one game remaining before that Week 8 timeline. Dak Prescott will be no worse than 4-2 in his first six games as a starter.

While filling in for Romo, Prescott has completed 69 percent of his passes for a solid 1,239 yards in five games. Granted, he’s only thrown four touchdown passes, but the rookie quarterback has also yet to throw an interception.

That all works out to a 101.5 passer rating. As a frame of reference, Romo has only topped that number twice in his career.

There’s certainly no reason to rush Romo back. Given their age differences (Romo is 36, Prescott is 23), there may not be a logical reason to ever start Romo again in Dallas. Of course, whether Jerry Jones and Co. agree (they do not) is an entirely different discussion.
