Houston Texans news over the next several weeks will primarily focus on who the team hires to be their new head coach, replacing the recently-fired Bill O’Brien in that role.
Currently, Romeo Crennel is the Texans’ interim head coach. He’ll finish out what has been yet another lost season for the organization before ultimately being replaced.
We now have more Texans news as it relates to the team’s head coaching search with a familiar name being given first dibs to interview.

Texans news: Team interviews Jim Caldwell for head coach job
This actually fits in with rumors that the Texans are looking for an offensive-minded head coach for stud quarterback Deshaun Watson, who will have some input as it relates to which direction the organization goes.
Caldwell, 65, is widely respected around the NFL world as an offensive mind and could help the Texans turn the corner as a team. His previous experience suggests that this could be a relationship that works. As a head coach with the Indianapolis Colts (2009-11) and Detroit Lions (2014-17), Caldwell posted a 62-50 record.
He led the Colts to a 14-2 record as a rookie head coach back in 2009 and actually led the Lions to their last playoff appearance back in 2016. However, it’s Caldwell’s experience as an offensive play-caller that might have led to Houston’s interest in him.

Texans news: Jim Caldwell has the resume
In Caldwell’s nine seasons as a head coach and play caller, he’s led four top-10 scoring units.
- 2009: #7
- 2010: #4
- 2012: #10 (Ravens offensive coordinator)
- 2017: #7
Caldwell has worked with quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning, Joe Flacco and Matthew Stafford in the past. All have had a ton of success under his watch.
Of course, this specific piece of Texans news does not mean Caldwell will get the job. He’s the first in a long line of likely interviews set to take place in Houston over the next few weeks.
