There’s a ton of drama unfolding surrounding the Houston Texans as they look for a new head coach to replace the fired Bill O’Brien. A lot of that surrounds star quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is upset with the direction of the organization.
One of the major issues for Watson is the Texans’ current search for a new head coach. On Tuesday, Houston reportedly requested permission from the Kansas City Chiefs to speak with offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
There’s one minor issue with that. The window to interview the respected offensive mind closed on Sunday, meaning that the Texans will have to wait until either the Chiefs lose in the playoffs or until after the Super Bowl.

Texans continue to struggle with head coach search
It’s not yet known how much interest these Texans have in Eric Bieniemy in the first place. That was one of the reported rifts with Watson in the first place. However, this shows a whole new level of ineptitude from the team’s brass after hiring Nick Caserio to be their general manager.
This also comes with former Texans great Andre Johnson calling out the organization and telling Watson to stick to his guns.
The interesting dynamic here is that Texans owner Cal McNair put together an advisory panel to search for a new head coach. Andre Johnson is apparently on said panel. Talk about issues from the top down.
A lot of people want to focus on the issues Bill O’Brien had in the locker room and during his brief stint as the Texans’ general manager. That’s fine. He bombed out spectacularly. However, there’s obviously organization-wide issues for the franchise.
This is among the reasons Deshaun Watson might very well be on the verge of requesting a trade mere months after he committed to the Texans over the long haul. Simply put, the organization is a complete mess right now.
