Sitting with the 11th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans weren’t in the strongest of positions to land one of the top three quarterbacks in the class. Yet, depending on who you ask, the Titans already have a capable starting QB on the roster with Ryan Tannehill.
It’s just, how good can the soon-to-be 35-year-old QB be in 2023 after leading the team to just a 6-6 record in 2022? Not to mention, Tannehill is in the final year of his contract, leaving the Titans with an uncertain future at the position.
So it came as no surprise when the Titans moved back up to the 33rd overall pick to select Kentucky’s Will Levis. Or that they drafted Malik Willis with the 86th pick last year. But that’s just common sense.
The Titans’ adding to the QB depth chart didn’t come as much of a surprise among fans, and according to Yahoo’s Charles Robinson, it didn’t catch anyone around the NFL off-guard either.
According to Robinson, who recently made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, the Titans tried their best to trade Tannehill to any team willing to take on his contract this offseason. Obviously, with Tannehill still on the roster, it didn’t work out.

Tannehill has a 2023 cap hit of $36.6 million, but at this point, having the 11-year-vet likely brings a lot of hidden value for the team’s two young, developing QBs. At this point, it appears the Titans will enter the year with Tannehill under center once again, but his leash may not be very long.
