The Tampa Bay Rays optioned shortstop Taylor Walls to Triple-A Durham on Saturday.

In a corresponding move, the Rays recalled right-hander Sean Poppen from Durham.

Walls, 25, is hitting .212 with one home run and 13 RBIs in 39 games this season. Since the All-Star break, the rookie is hitting .067 (1-for-15) with one RBI and two walks.

Poppen, 27, has 13 games of major league experience over the past three seasons with the Pirates and Minnesota Twins, including three relief appearances this season for Pittsburgh with a 7.71 ERA.
