Stefon Diggs favored to land with 2 AFC contenders if he leaves the Buffalo Bills

Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

Star wide receiver Stefon Diggs and the Buffalo Bills are in a tricky situation this offseason. After two drama-filled years, reports indicate that a divorce could be in the cards.

But the finances are tricky. Buffalo currently finds itself an estimated $46 million over the 2024 NFL salary cap. Diggs, 30, is set to count a whopping $28.75 million against said cap.

The Bills could restructure the contracts of quarterback Josh Allen and others to become cap compliant. Though, a more direct approach would be to either trade Diggs in June or designate him a post-June 1 release. This would save the Bills nearly $20 million in cap room.

We’re now hearing a bit more about who is favored to land the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver during the NFL offseason.

Per DraftKings Sportsbook (h/t Pro Football Talk), Buffalo is actually favored to retain Diggs at -300. The Texans and two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs are tied at second with +1000 odds to acquire Diggs.

There are a lot of indicators linking Diggs to the Texans. This would make a ton of sense given that Houston wants to find more weapons for reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud. The Texans are also in a great financial situation heading into NFL free agency with an estimated $70 million to spend.

As for Kansas City, there is no secret that the team’s wide receivers struggled last season despite hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Acquiring a player of Diggs’ ilk would be a boon for Patrick Mahomes and Co. The question here is whether Buffalo would work on a trade with the team that defeated it in the AFC Championship Game last month.

We’re also intrigued about the possibility of Dallas going after Diggs. His brother, Trevon, stars for the ‘Boys. Meanwhile, they can save a nice amount of cap room by releasing fellow wide receivers Michael Gallup and Brandin Cooks. Imagine Diggs teaming up with CeeDee Lamb for Dak Prescott.
