Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke with the media on Tuesday and seemed to suggest that his team’s season is over.
Once the NBA season does return from suspension, Golden State will have 17 games left. It currently sits at 15-50 with playing having been halted due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Kerr, Golden State is already in offseason mode. What that could mean is anyone’s best guess. However, rival executives around the NBA believe that it should seriously consider trading three-time champion Draymond Green once free agency starts.
This is a rather interesting stance in that the Warriors handed Green a four-year, $99.7 million extension last September. He’s also in the midst off a terrible season with fellow stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson sidelined.
Green, 30, is averaging 8.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists on under 40% shooting from the field. The speculation that Golden State could receive a lottery pick in return makes little sense, especially given Green’s reputation as a hot head around the NBA.
With that said, the Warriors do have a cheaper and younger version of Green on the roster in that of impressive forward Eric Paschall. If they can move Green for anything while saving money, it would make a ton of sense.
