Shocking odds: Khalil Mack favored to play somewhere other than Oakland

Khalil Mack

The growing rift between Khalil Mack and the Oakland Raiders has gotten wider in recent weeks as his holdout for a new contract lengthens well into the preseason.

Mack was fined a ridiculous amount of money for missing the team’s first preseason game, and at least one NFL executive is starting to get the feeling that the Raiders are “open for business” as it concerns their star pass rusher.

Things have gotten so contentious that there’s another team now favored to have Mack on its roster, rather than Oakland.

So, which team is favored to land Mack?

Hint: It’s time to RELAX.

It’s worth pointing out two things here as it concerns Mack potentially landing in Green Bay.

First, Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie was an executive with the Packers organization from 1994-2011 and has relationships with people in Green Bay. Secondly, new Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has already proved himself to be much more aggressive about acquiring talent outside of the draft than his predecessor, Ted Thompson.

Furthermore, new head coach Jon Gruden doesn’t seem to be all that interested in catering to Mack, based on recent comments he made about the superstar’s absence.

With that in mind, the Packers trading for Mack is not exactly a pipe dream, though obviously it’s not something that can just come together easily either.

That being said, if the Packers were to land Mack in a trade, one would have to surmise that Green Bay would vault up a bit into the upper echelon of NFC teams favored to win the Super Bowl next February.
