Shedeur Sanders is the most polarizing player in the 2025 NFL Draft class. The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback and son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders drew mixed reviews at the NFL Combine. With just weeks remaining until Round 1, there’s ongoing debate over where Sanders will be drafted.
During the combine, there were persistent NFL rumors that Sanders came off as arrogant to teams. For a quarterback prospect who doesn’t have elite physical tools, Sanders’ confidence in what he can do for a franchise and his open self-confidence rubbed some the wrong way in Indianapolis.

- Shedeur Sanders stats (ESPN): 4,134 passing yards, 37-10 TD-INT, 74% completion rate, 8.7 yards per attempt, 168.2 QB rating, 4 rushing touchdowns
However, the quarterback position requires extreme confidence and Sanders has reason to believe in his ability. He helped turn around football programs at both Jackson State University and the University of Colorado. He’s also an experienced starter and his belief in himself is a reflection of how confident his father always was.
There’s also universal agreement around the league that Cam Ward is the best quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. With Ward likely to be chosen first overall by the Tennessee Titans, Sanders is the next quarterback domino to fall on draft night.
Senior NFL report Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports said on Friday’s Inside Coverage podcast that based on conversations with teams, he believes Sanders will be a top-four pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Who will draft Shedeur Sanders?
The likeliest landing spot is with the Cleveland Browns at the second overall pick. After signing his contract extension with the team, edge rusher Myles Garrett revealed that the front office gave him some insight into its plans at quarterback. While that could be a veteran, Garrett’s excitement about the possibility leads more reason to believe it would be Sanders.
Even if Cleveland passes on him, that still leaves the New York Giants with the third overall pick. While the Giants recently signed Jameis Winston, the structure of his deal is aligned with what most backup quarterbacks receive. Sanders realistically could be available with the third overall pick and he’d immediately become the Giants starting quarterback in 2025.

After Cleveland and New York, the New York Jets (seventh overall pick) and New Orleans Saints are both in the market for a young quarterback. While trading up for a top-four pick would require substantial draft capital, either front office could be worth it if they believe Sanders has the tools to become a franchise quarterback. At the very least, Sanders should hear his name called very early in Round 1.
