Mets to hold ‘Seinfeld night’ to honor 30-year anniversary of iconic show’s debut

On July 5, 1989, Seinfeld debuted. On July 5, 2019, the New York Mets will mark the 30 year anniversary of the iconic sitcom’s debut with “Seinfeld Night.”

Of course, Keith Hernandez will be there, and that’s a natural. He’s a former Seinfeld guest star and is a Mets announcer. But the Mets are really pulling out all the stops on this one.

“Fans are encouraged to watch every episode before they arrive, from The Chinese Restaurant to The Hamptons, as attendees will be tested on their Seinfeld knowledge with trivia hosted by lifelong Mets fan Jerry Seinfeld,” the release said. “In addition, the infamous Soup Nazi, Larry Thomas, will be on hand greeting fans on the concourse.”

Get out! This is just a brilliant promotion. We might even call it breathtaking. Normally, we tend to associate promotional ideas with Minor League Baseball (as the Mets can attest). But this is top of the line, baby. Dare we say, it’s even better than Jon Voight night.

We have to say this. When we think of Seinfeld and contests, trivia is not the first thing that comes to mind. But this works well.

Now, if you’re a Mets fan who never watched Seinfeld (not that there’s anything wrong with that) you really should still go to Citi Field anyway. First of all, you can always fake it. But more importantly, you gotta support the team.
