Seahawks sign RB Eddie Lacy

Eddie Lacy

The Seattle Seahawks have signed running back Eddie Lacy, whose punishing running style fits that offense to perfection.

Lacy’s new deal is worth $3 million guaranteed and up to $5.5 million, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

A player who has struggled with weight issues and his health, Lacy hasn’t been a consistent, dominant force in the NFL since the 2014 season.

As a rookie out of Alabama, Lacy rushed for 2,317 yards and 20 touchdowns his first two seasons in the NFL.

Then he missed one game in 2015 with an injury and wasn’t nearly as effective in the rest of them, rushing for just 758 yards that year. He then missed 11 games last year, ending up on IR with an ankle injury. The Green Bay Packers seemed content to move on with Lacy hitting free agency after his fourth season in Green Bay.

Seattle lands him over the Minnesota Vikings, whose former running back, Adrian Peterson just left the Pacific Northwest on Monday after a visit with the Seahawks. Jamaal Charles was also reportedly on his way to visit with the Seahawks later this week, and that visit is still on. But one wonders if that ship has now sailed.

Lacy will likely compete with Thomas Rawls for the bulk of Seattle’s carries in 2017.
