Offensive coordinator Scott Turner fired by the Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders’ offensive coordinator since Ron Rivera took over as head coach back in 2020, Scott Turner has been under a ton of fire recently.

Washington just finished up shop on an ugly 8-8-1 season in which it placed 24th in points and 20th in total yards.

That performance has now cost Turner his job. The Commanders announced on Tuesday that they have fired the veteran assistant coach.

“I met with Coach Turner today and informed him that we will be moving in another direction going forward with the offensive coordinator position.”

Rivera himself was seemingly on the hot seat after Washington posted a 1-3-1 record in its final five games to miss out on the playoffs for the sixth time in seven seasons. Apparently, he’ll get another shot to prove his worth to owner Daniel Snyder or another individual who steps into his role.

As for Scott Turner, he served as Rivera’s quarterbacks coach with the Carolina Panthers in 2018 and 2019 before following the head coach to Maryland ahead of the 2020 campaign.

In three seasons as the Commanders’ play-caller, Turner struggled in a big way. The stats don’t lie. Washington finished no better than 20th in total yards and 23rd in points. Washington will now look for a new person to call the shots on offense.
