Saints news: No timeline for Drew Brees return from injury

Saints news: New Orleans Saints future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees has missed each of the past three games with 11 broken ribs and a collapsed lung. Originally placed on injured reserve following Week 10, Brees indicated he’d return within a few weeks.

That might no longer be the case. With New Orleans having won all three of its games as Brees recovers, the team seemingly wants to take it slow with him.

This actually makes a lot of sense. These Saints just clinched a spot in the playoffs following Sunday’s win over the Atlanta Falcons.

This Saints news comes with them one game up on the Green Bay Packers for the top spot in the NFC and a first-round playoff bye. Remember, the new NFL postseason format only allows for one bye in each conference. New Orleans has already lost to the Packers this season.

Even then, it makes absolutely no sense to rush Drew Brees back from injury given its severity.

Saints news: Taysom Hill stats, undefeated as a starter

The good news here is that New Orleans is a perfect 3-0 since it surprisingly decided to go with Hill over a more-established veteran in Jameis Winston to take over for Brees.

While Taysom Hill has had some consistency issues tossing the rock, he remains undefeated as a starter and has played well.

Week 11: 18-of-23 passing, 233 yards, 49 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, zero interceptions
Week 12: 9-of-16 passing, 78 yards, 44 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, one interception
Week 13: 27-of-37 passing, 232 yards, 83 rushing yards, two total touchdowns, zero interceptions

New Orleans obviously has faith in Hill after signing him to a multi-year deal during the offseason. Thus far, that faith has paid off.

Regardless of the Saints wanting to play it close to the vest with Brees, a first-round bye is not guaranteed right now. That’s magnified by a difficult remaining slate for New Orleans.

Week 14: AT- Philadelphia Eagles (3-8-1)
Week 15: VS- Kansas City Chiefs (11-1)
Week 16: VS- Minnesota Vikings (6-6)
Week 17: AT- Carolina Panthers (4-8)

The games against Kansas City and Minnesota are going to be difficult. The defending champion Chiefs sit at 11-1 on the season and have won 21 of their past 22 games. Meanwhile, Minnesota has won five of six since a 1-5 start to the campaign.
