The Texas A&M Aggies still have one game left on their 2023 regular season. After that, it’s time to focus on finding a new head coach to take over for Jimbo Fisher, who was recently fired after the university reached a staggering $77 million contract buyout.
If Fisher’s 46-25 record isn’t good enough for the Aggies or his 3-0 bowl record, then Texas A&M will have to aim even higher than the former Florida State head coach.
But Bruce Feldman of The Athletic suggests Texas A&M has already identified a few candidates the program “really likes.” Yet, he also notes that the Aggies could ramp up their coaching search after the conclusion of Saturday’s college football games.
Some of the names Feldman mentioned that the Aggies already like include:
- Lance Leipold, Kansas
- Mike Elko, Duke
- Chris Klieman, Kansas State
Another name Texas A&M could soon pursue is Kentucky’s Mark Stoops.
Yet, while each coach listed above could very well help the Aggies turn their program around, there’s a much bigger target Feldman says we shouldn’t be surprised to see Texas A&M pursue.
According to Feldman, Ohio State’s Ryan Day could even be “open to listening to Texas A&M’s pitch” to become their next head coach should the Buckeyes fall to Michigan today in ‘The Game.’ If so, it’s safe to say, Day would become the biggest name attached to the Aggies’ current coaching vacancy.
