The Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson could be headed toward an interesting contract impasse, as the quarterback has reportedly set a deadline for a long-term deal to get done.
According to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, Wilson wants a contract extension by April 15 of this year, which when Seattle’s offseason program officially opens up.
Recent reports indicate Wilson and the Seahawks have had “zero contact” on a new deal.
However, Condotta shared that it is “thought the two sides have had some negotiations in recent days with Wilson hoping to get the contract done quickly.”
Wilson is set to enter the final year of the deal he signed with Seattle in 2015. It’s not clear if his threat is empty, or if he could potentially hold out without a new deal. If he chooses the latter, it would mark the third season in a row in which a prominent Seattle player has held out over a contract issue with the team.
For what it’s worth, we’ve recently explored a scenario in which the Seahawks trade the star quarterback. Likely, that’s not something the team wants to even consider. Yet things could get very tricky, very fast.
