Free agent offensive lineman Richie Incognito’s absolutely crazy off-field situation was taken to a whole new level earlier this week when the Pro Bowler was arrested in Arizona after losing his mind at an Arizona funeral home following his father’s death.

The situation itself is as sad as it is scary. Authorities claim that Incognito threatened to shoot up the mortuary after getting into a confrontation with workers. He was later said to have guns in his truck.

Following his arrest and subsequent release from jail, Incognito’s Las Vegas-based attorney, Joseph Ganley, has released a statement on his behalf.

“Richie Incognito would like to thank everyone who has reached out to express their condolences and concern over the last several days,” Ganley told TMZ Sports. “Richie had a tremendous relationship with his father; he admired him, he emulated him, and he loved him.”

As someone who also just lost his father unexpectedly, it’s understandable that Incognito would be upset. Our thoughts are certainly with him and his family. Obviously, that doesn’t give the hot head the right to break the law and threaten people with violence.

It’s in this that his lawyer also talked about the incident in question.

“Richie intends to participate fully in the court process,” Ganley said. ” In the meantime, the Incognito family conveys their sincere appreciation for all the prayers, and they ask for privacy as they grieve Mr. Incognito’s passing.”

All of this comes after repeated off-field incidents over the past several months surrounding Incognito. In fact, he was briefly placed on a psychiatric hold following one of the incidents.

The hope here is that Incognito can somehow get his head right off the field. Until that happens, any thoughts of a return to the NFL can be thrown out the window.
