Free agent cornerback Richard Sherman was arrested on a domestic violence charge in the Seattle area and denied bail early Wednesday morning.

Per public records, Sherman was booked at 6:08 a.m. local time for “burglary domestic violence” at King County Correctional Facility in Seattle. The case is being investigated as a felony.

The Seattle Times reported the case “is sealed, so no other details were immediately available.”

The NFL Players Association released the following statement on Wednesday.

“We were made aware of an arrest last night of one of our player leaders for an alleged domestic violence incident and have activated our domestic violence crisis protocol for the protection and support of everyone involved. We will continue to monitor events closely as more facts are made available to us.”

Sherman, 33, missed a career-high 11 games last season for the San Francisco 49ers. The five-time Pro Bowl selection recorded 18 tackles and one interception in five games before being released in February.

In the previous season, Sherman collected 61 tackles, three interceptions and 11 passes defensed in 15 games while making his fifth Pro Bowl.

Sherman’s first seven seasons were spent with the NFC West rival Seahawks, with whom he made two Super Bowl appearances (winning one) and grabbed 32 interceptions. Sherman also earned three first-team All-Pro selections from 2012-14 as part of Seattle’s “Legion of Boom” defense.

In his 10 seasons, Sherman has amassed 484 tackles, 36 interceptions and 115 passes defensed in 139 games (133 starts).
