Report: Would be a surprise if Dez Bryant gets cut

Dez Bryant Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys plan to meet with wide receiver Dez Bryant on Friday to discuss his contract and future with the team. Prior to this announcement, some speculated that the Cowboys may decide to release Bryant.

Though, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it would be a surprise if Bryant is not on the Cowboys roster this season after talking to some involved parties..

Rapoport also said that, had the Cowboys landed Sammy Watkins or another big free agent receiver, Bryant “probably would not” be with the team.

He also says it is highly unlikely the Cowboys “go forward with the $16 million hit” to the team’s salary cap.

For those just catching up, Bryant has not lived up to the giant contract extension he inked in 2015. Injuries are partly to blame, though Bryant played a complete 16-game slate in 2017 and recorded only 838 yards with six touchdowns.

Friday’s meeting should provide insight into exactly what the Cowboys expect Bryant to take as far as a pay cut. Talks of restructuring Bryant’s $70 million contract have been looming  since free agency kicked off.
