There’s been quite a bit of chatter this offseason that the Dallas Cowboys could release star wide receiver Dez Bryant, who is set to count $16.5 million against the cap in 2018.
Of course, executive vice president Stephen Jones has sparked much of that talk with his comments about Bryant’s influence on the sideline, not to mention some cryptic wording about the team’s decision-making process with Bryant.
On Saturday, Bryant admitted “it’s personal,” responding to a fan’s tweet, which said, “Dez Bryant needs to take all this release talk personal and have a season like his payday season a few years back.”

Bryant seems to be more aggressively approaching his offseason preparations this year compared to what he’s done in years past. He’s hired a special coach to help him with his route-running abilities and conditioning, which is no small thing for a player that has accomplished as much as he has already.
Dallas recently signed free agent wide receiver Allen Hurns. And while the team has no plans to dump Bryant in the process, the message being sent is crystal clear — be a part of the solution or find yourself relegated to secondary status.
It’s going to be fascinating to see how Dallas’ offense performs in Dak Prescott’s third year under center.
