Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has a personal goal to return to his starting job in Week 8 or Week 9, according to Pro Football Talk.

After an MRI, which showed positive results, Romo has been actively working towards this goal.

“He’s sufficiently recovered that, per a source with knowledge of the situation, he has been throwing the ball with zip and working out aggressively in preparation for his return,” writes Mike Florio of PFT.

This fits the timeline the team had set a few weeks back.

Of course, while the Cowboys have maintained that Romo will start as soon as he is healthy enough to do the job, questions are swirling about whether or not that is the best course of action.

Also, Stephen Jones has left the door cracked slightly for a potential Drew Bledsoe/Tom Brady situation to develop (more on that here).

Rookie Dak Prescott has led the ‘Boys to a 4-1 record and has set a record by throwing 155 passes without an interception. He has totaled 1,300 yards and has scored seven touchdowns.

If Dallas enters the bye with a record of 5-1, it’s going to be tough to stop the gravy train from rolling. While nobody would dispute Romo has earned the right to come back and start, chemistry is a tricky thing. There could be trouble brewing if the veteran comes back and doesn’t perform well.

If Romo comes back in Week 8, he’ll face the Philadelphia Eagles — a team with a brutal front four. If he comes back in Week 9, he’ll have the Cleveland Browns to contend with — a team that would help ease him into action.

The latter seems to be the best course of action, if Romo indeed will be starting when he is healthy.
