The Houston Texans are changing things up on the defensive side of the ball following a 2019 season that saw them finish in the bottom five in yards allowed.

Longtime defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel is out after six seasons in that role. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, defensive line coach Anthony Weaver will replace Crennel in that role.

Seen as a budding defensive mind, Weaver had served as the Texans’ defensive line coach from 2016. Prior to that, he held the same position with the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns.

This comes after Houston yielded 51 points in its AFC Divisional Playoff loss to the eventual conference champion Kansas City Chiefs.

It also comes amid indications that embattled head coach Bill O’Brien is gaining more power within the organization.
