Report: Teddy Bridgewater can earn up to $15 million on one-year deal with Jets

When reports emerged Tuesday that Teddy Bridgewater is signing a one-year deal with the New York Jets, the financials were pretty scant. One report suggested he was getting around $5 million on the deal.

However, on Wednesday at the start of the new league year, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported the deal is worth up to $15 million.

Of course, it’s likely much of this contract is based on incentives. Which is totally understandable given Bridgewater’s recent health history. He briefly appeared in a game last year but has barely played in two full seasons following the catastrophic knee injury suffered during training camp ahead of the 2016 season.

This is a really good chance for Bridgewater to show he’s still one of the league’s most promising young quarterbacks. He’ll have to beat out Josh McCown (also signed to a one-year deal) and likely a rookie quarterback this year to earn that $15 million. But if he does he’ll be in line for a much bigger payday in 2019.
