Report: Robert Griffin III set to visit Jets

Robert Griffin III is a free agent after being released by the Washington Redskins, and he’s now set to visit the New York Jets, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

This is fascinating.

It indicates that the Jets might realize Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t coming back, which also makes one wonder where Fitzpatrick might land. He’s been tied to the Denver Broncos, who just traded for Mark Sanchez.

However, Ian Rapoport noted the Jets would like to have RB3 behind Fitzpatrick, if that’s possible.

The Jets still have Geno Smith and Bryce Petty on the roster, so the fact the team is hosting RG3 indicates they’re not exactly high on either of those quarterbacks at this time.

Landing Griffin III would have to be considered a fantastic long-term move, however, if he can stay healthy.

Griffin III sat out all the 2015 season in Washington after being replaced by Kirk Cousins. He’s had a rough go of things since his breakout rookie campaign, though.

In three years, he’s compiled a 14-21 record as a starter, completing 63.9 percent of his passes with 40 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. He is also a dynamic runner and still has to be considered one of the most exciting young players in the league, given his physical abilities.

Where RG3 must evolve, however, is in his understanding of the pro game. Offensive coordinator Chan Gailey must believe he can mold the young passer into a star.
