Just like we saw last year, the New England Patriots and Rob Gronkowski are reportedly working on restructuring his contract, which likely involves more incentives.
James Palmer if NFL Network reported this news Monday, noting that, per NFL rules it can’t be done until May 24th, if it does have incentives like it did a year before. Last year, his restructured deal included $5 million in incentives, which he did earn.
Gronkowski isn’t going to show up for team OTAs right away, but, as Palmer pointed out, May 24th just happens to fall on on the team’s third OTA, and Gronk is expected to show up at some point.
This isn’t the first news that New England is working on restructuring Gronkowski’s contract, either. He’s already committed to playing for the team in 2018, so there’s no real danger that things could spiral out of control. Both Gronkowski and the Patriots want to get this sorted out so he can play out the season a happy man.
And we all know when Gronk is happily producing, no other tight end in the league can put up numbers like he can. Last year, he casually produced 69 receptions for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns, appearing in just 14 games.
