Report: No guarantee Giants’ Ben McAdoo finishes the season

The New York Giants’ drama filled and equally disappointing season took another turn when the team decided to give Geno Smith and Davis Webb playing time, leading to Eli Manning’s “benching.”

To say that the decision was met with some negative responses would be an understatement. These responses were widespread in nature with some focusing on a head coach in Ben McAdoo who was already on the hot seat following a 2-9 start to the season.

Now comes this report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport noting that the fallout from the Manning situation has led to Giants owner John Mara not guaranteeing McAdoo will finish the season as head coach.

This seems to be a complete reversal from a couple weeks ago when the Giants’ brass indicated that there would not be an in-season coaching change. Obviously, this is directly linked to what has become an ugly situation surrounding a player in Manning who has led the Giants to two Super Bowl titles.

Steadfast in his decision to give younger quarterbacks an opportunity, McAdoo reportedly won’t bench Smith in favor of Manning on Sunday, even if the former struggles like he has throughout his career. That could bring this situation to a head relatively soon here.
