The 2022 NHL Draft Lottery is set for May 10 and will be conducted remotely, The Athletic reported Wednesday.
Participants in the draft lottery will be the 16 teams to miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The team that winds up with the worst record in the regular season has the highest chance of winning the first pick.
Last year, the Buffalo Sabres finished with an NHL-low 37 points and won the right to select Owen Power with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2021 draft. Power recently signed with the team after completing his college season at Michigan.
The Montreal Canadiens will host the 2022 draft on July 7-8 at the Bell Centre.
Forward Shane Wright of the Ontario Hockey League’s Kingston Frontenacs is expected to be the top pick.
