General manager Alex Anthopoulos and the Atlanta Braves are looking for upgrades to their pitching staff heading into next week’s MLB trade deadline.
Currently in a minor funk, a trade would install some life into the first-place team heading down the stretch.
According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, that could include landing Noah Syndergaard and Edwin Diaz from the division-rival New York Mets. New York sent scouts to Triple-A Gwinnett to scout top prospect Kyle Wright Thursday evening. The team is open to dealing with its division rivals.
The report notes that Atlanta would only part ways with its top prospects for a controllable asset. Both Syndergaard and Diaz fit into that category.
It was noted on Thursday that the Mets will likely move Syndergaard before Wednesday’s trade deadline. And while Diaz did suffer an injury in his last outing, it’s not believed to be serious. He, too, could be moved.
A deal of this ilk would likely require Atlanta parting ways with Mr. Wright, the team’s No. 2 overall prospect. It would also include a couple other players from the organization’s top-30 prospect list.
