It sure didn’t take too long for new Los Angeles Lakers personnel head Magic Johnson to shake things up around the office. Mere hours after he was named the team’s new vice president of basketball operations, Magic has apparently swung his first deal in this new role.
According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Los Angeles has traded super-sub Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Corey Brewer and a first-round pick.
Williams, 30, has been on the trade block for some time now. It just took Magic’s presence in the Lakers’ front office for this to come to fruition.
The veteran guard is averaging an NBA-best 18.6 points off the bench this season and is considered the favorite to land the Sixth Man of the Year award. He joins a stacked Rockets perimeter group that includes James Harden, Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson.
As it relates to the Lakers, they get a veteran in Brewer that has one year remaining on his contract as well as a valuable first-round pick. Not a bad first move from Magic in his new role.
