The Chicago Cubs apparently aren’t wasting any time looking for a manager to replace the recently ousted Joe Maddon.
According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, former Cubs catcher David Ross is favored to replace Maddon. In fact, the job could be his if he wants it.
The 42-year-old Ross has no coaching experience and just retired following Chicago’s World Series win back in 2016.
However, he’s a wanted man within MLB’s managerial ranks. The catcher spent 15 years in the bigs and is widely respected around the baseball world.
It wouldn’t be too much of a shock to see someone with no experience hired for such a high-profile job.
It was just last year that the New York Yankees hired Aaron Boone directly out of the broadcast booth. That has worked out pretty well.
