The NFL has reportedly reinstated Aldon Smith. He’s now eligible to participate in Dallas Cowboys team activities this offseason.
ESPN’s Ed Werder first reported on this development Wednesday. Calvin Watkins reports the state date of this conditional reinstatement is May 26.
Aldon Smith has been out of the league since 2015
The former San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders defensive end hasn’t played in the NFL since 2015 after being suspended indefinitely for multiple off-field incidents.
When he was on the field prior to being booted from the NFL, Smith was one of the most-feared pass rushers in the NFL. A former first-round pick out of Missouri, he racked up 33.5 sacks in his first two seasons. Then, his issues with alcohol and domestic incidents took center stage, derailing one of the most promising careers in the league.
Dallas signed Smith to a one-year deal worth $2 million this offseason. Smith says he’s been clean and sober, and he’s been working out with Jay Glazer for months leading up to this moment.
