Report: Carson Wentz ‘highly unlikely’ to play again this year

Dealing with a fracture in his back, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has likely played his last snap during the 2018 season.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports Wentz needs three months to fully heal up, and that the Eagles won’t risk further injury, noting it’s “highly unlikely” he plays another down in 2018.

Rapoport also noted the injury is one that’s been hanging around since October. But it only showed up as a fracture when a CT scan revealed it this week.

The Eagles have to be at least somewhat concerned about the long-term health viability of this young man. When healthy, he’s shown everything you look for in a franchise passer. Unfortunately, he’s struggled with injuries every year dating back to his senior season at North Dakota State.

At least the rest of the way in 2018, it appears he’ll remain sidelined while the Eagles look once again to Nick Foles as they attempt to claw their way back into the playoff picture.
