Report: Eagles’ Carson Wentz has a fracture in his back

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without starting quarterback Carson Wentz for this week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams after it was revealed that he’s dealing with a back injury.

It was somewhat of a surprise given that Wentz didn’t look to be banged up during last week’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Now comes this uncomfortable piece of information for Wentz and his struggling Eagles. Multiple media reports now indicate that the franchise quarterback is dealing with a fractured vertebrae in his back.

The good news here is that no surgery is said to be required. It’s going to be all about rest for Wentz from here on out. Whether that means he misses the remainder of the season is not yet known.

At 6-7 on the season, Philadelphia is still just a half game out of the final playoff spot in the NFC. It now looks like the team will be forced to earn said wildcard spot with reigning Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles under center.

The bigger picture here is Wentz’ injury history. He suffered a torn ACL last season. Now, with a back injury, one has to hope this doesn’t derail a promising career.
