Report: Cardinals likely to fire Steve Wilks after just one season

The Arizona Cardinals reportedly are likely to fire rookie head coach Steve Wilks after just one season at the helm.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic wrote Monday that, “It seems a foregone conclusion the day-after news conference on Dec. 31 will be about his firing.”

Furthermore, it could be the end of the road for general manager Steve Keim, though that remains a bit more of a question mark, per Somers.

Really, it wouldn’t be shocking to see either of these men leave. Wilks and his coaching staff have overseen a Cardinals team that is arguable the worst in the NFL — and certainly the most boring to watch.

Keim has had personal problems interfere with work, and he has made plenty of questionable moves as the team’s top personnel man, too.

The bottom line is that, heading into Week 16, the Cardinals have just three wins and are coming off one of the worst losses of the season. Even worse, Wilks and Co. have managed to turn one of the league’s best offensive weapons — running back David Johnson — into pretty much a non-factor.
