For the second time in as many years, Alabama may be looking for a new offensive coordinator. A year ago, the Crimson Tide replaced the irrepressible Lane Kiffin with Brian Daboll. Now, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Daboll could be in line for an offensive coordinator job in the NFL.

“Every coaching candidate has these lists of who they’re going to hire if they get a job. Here’s an intriguing name on several lists for a potential offensive coordinator. Brian Daboll, the Alabama offensive coordinator who impressed a couple of nights ago, replacing their staring quarterback and then leading them to a National Championship, could return to the NFL.”
Daboll has extensive NFL experience.
Most recently, he served as an offensive assistant for the New England Patriots in 2013, and as the team’s tight ends coach from 2014-2016. He got into the NFL with the Patriots, as well, working as a defensive assistant from 2000-2001, and as a wide receivers coach from 2002-2006. In between the New England stints, he served as the New York Jets’ quarterbacks coach (2007-2008), and as the offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns (2009-2010), Miami Dolphins (2011), and Kansas City Chiefs (2012).
One possibility to keep an eye on would be that he’d serve under current Patriots’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, assuming McDaniels is hired as a head coach somewhere. A related possibility would be for McDaniels to get hired somewhere and Daboll returning to New England to replace McDaniels, assuming Bill Belichick is still the head coach.
But all of that is only speculation. Daboll has worked with multiple coaches across many organizations. So, he certainly has the connections to get hired anywhere.
