The San Francisco 49ers won’t be losing defensive coordinator Robert Saleh to Michigan State, as he’s reportedly turned down an interview request from the school.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Friday evening that Saleh told school officials he plans on staying with the 49ers and feels he has unfinished business.

Michigan State, of course, is trying to fill the void left when Mark Dantonio stunningly retired earlier this week.

The chance to lead a major college program is no small thing to turn down. Saleh clearly isn’t ready to move on, however, after watching his vaunted 49ers defense give up 21 unanswered points in the second half of the fourth quarter to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.

The 49ers are already favored to emerge out of the NFC and play in Super Bowl LV. Having Saleh around to dial up the defensive plays will certainly help them get back to the big stage.
