In desperation mode following the season-ending leg injury to Alex Smith on Sunday, the Washington Redskins have worked quickly to add another veteran to their quarterback room.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Washington has signed former New York Jets first-round pick Mark Sanchez to back up Colt McCoy for the remainder of the season.

Immediately after Smith suffered his devastating injury in a loss to the Houston Texans, reports surfaced that Washington was set to bring in multiple street free agents for workouts. Sanchez was among them.
Having not seen regular season action since he was a member of the Dallas Cowboys back in 2016, Sanchez was suspended to start the 2018 campaign for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs. He’s remained a free agent since.
The former USC standout spent last season as Mitch Trubisky’s backup with the Chicago Bears.
Boasting a career 37-35 record with 86 touchdowns and 86 interceptions, Washington has to hope Sanchez doesn’t see the light of day moving forward this season. The team is currently 6-4 on the season and one game ahead of Dallas in the NFC East.
These two will go up against one another in Dallas on Thanksgiving in what will be a battle for first place.
