There’s a certain way organizations should do things around the sports world. Allowing players to find out about a massive change within said organization via social media is not one of those ways.
When the Boston Red Sox moved on from manager Alex Cora earlier this week following his role in stealing signs, Red Sox star youngster Michael Chavis heard about the news on Twitter.
“The initial reaction was kind of offset because of everything leading up to it,” Chavis said Thursday, via Mass Live. “And all the speculation and everything going on with the Astros as well. So I can’t really say what my initial reaction was. But you do hate to see it.”
This can’t sit well with the future face of the franchise.
Interestingly enough, the 24-year-old Chavis made it to Boston from his native Georgia this week to accept an award as the team’s Rookie of the Year following a 2019 campaign that saw him hit 18 homers and drive in 58 runs.
Nothing about the scandals that have plagued Major League Baseball recently has to sit well with the players.
In addition to Cora getting ousted, the Houston Astros fired manager A.J. Hinch and the New York Mets moved on from recently-hired manager Carlos Beltran.
As the shock of this week wears off and MLB players prepare to report for Spring Training in about three weeks, the backdrop in both Arizona and Florida is going to be rather interesting.
