The Baltimore Ravens are desperate for some answers at the quarterback position, having waived David Olson and signed Josh Woodrum Monday morning.
Woodrum was an undrafted free agent last year out of Liberty. He’s spent time with the New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills, though he’s never appeared in an NFL game.
Olson, an Arena League quarterback, had been signed last week after news broke that Joe Flacco might be out up to six weeks with a back injury. Apparently he didn’t impress over the weekend, and neither did Flacco’s backup, Ryan Mallett (more on that here).
One quarterback who remains an option is Colin Kaepernick. He’s been on the team’s radar, and president Dick Cass confirmed the Ravens have been in direct contact with him, that he wants to play and that the team is weighing its options.
Owner Steve Bisciotti told reporters Sunday that he’s been in contact with fans, financial donors and Ray Lewis about Kaepernick to gauge what signing the quarterback would do to the team’s public image. This could mean Bisciotti is leaning towards not signing the former San Francisco 49ers passer, especially in light of his comment that he’s not sure Kaepernick would help the team win games.
At this time, it’s looking like Mallett could end up starting some games early if Flacco doesn’t heal up in time for Week 1.
