Ravens president: Team had direct discussions with Colin Kaepernick, weighing options

The Baltimore Ravens could be inching closer to a decision that would end up making Colin Kaepernick one of their quarterbacks in 2017.

Team president Dick Cass said Sunday that the team has had direct discussions with Kaepernick, that the quarterback wants to play and that the Ravens are currently weighing a decision on the matter, per Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun.

When Baltimore signed Arena League quarterback David Olson, many wrongfully assumed that would be the end of the Kaepernick to Baltimore talk. However, that obviously is not the case.

Of course, Baltimore’s continued interest in Kaepernick is almost certainly aided by Ryan Mallett’s abominable play this summer. And it absolutely indicates Joe Flacco’s back injury could be more severe than anyone wants to admit.

Last year, Kapernick threw 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions playing with the San Francisco 49ers. At this time, he’s the best free agent quarterback on the market, so it won’t be surprising if the Ravens make a move soon to bring him in.
