Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders entered Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers at 7-6 on the season and in need of a win in order to remain alive in the AFC Playoff race.
Down 7-0 in the first quarter following a perfect start from Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, the Raiders were driving for a potential tie game. That’s when Carr pulled up lame on a scramble.

As you can see, Derek Carr immediately grabbed for his groin. He was in obvious pain. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback would ultimately head for the locker room inside Allegiant Stadium in Vegas. Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota was then seen warming up on the sidelines.

As for the Raiders, they initially listed Derek Carr as questionable to return. However, it’s hard to imagine the quarterback making his way back on to the field for this game. Time will tell on that front.
The Raiders currently find themselves one game out of the final playoff spot in the AFC with three games remaining. This comes on the heels of the team firing defensive coordinator Paul Guenther after giving up north of 30 points per game thus far this season. Obviously, they need a healthy Derek Carr to make a late-season run.
Despite some overall struggles, Derek Carr has been good this season. He entered Thursday’s game having completed 68.2% of his passes for 3,343 yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The Raiders will now have to rely on free-agent signing Marcus Mariota under center. He has not thrown a regular-season pass since Week 16 of the 2019 season with the Tennessee Titans.
