In a stunning move, five-time Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil has ended his short-lived retirement and will sign with the New York Jets, per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
No one could hae seen this coming. Kalil, 34, announced his retirement this past offseason after starring for the Carolina Panthers over the past dozen seasons.
One of the best centers in modern history, Kalil started 145 games in those 12 seasons with Carolina. The former first-round pick earned two First-Team All-Pro honors.
It goes without saying that this is absolutely huge for young quarterback Sam Darnold. Having a veteran of Kalil’s ilk under center is only going to help the signal caller progress as a sophomore in 2019.
