Russell Wilson is still a member of the Denver Broncos, but with NFL free agency right around the corner, it’s possible we’ll see activity soon as the NFL Combine rages on. While the Broncos likely want to trade Wilson instead of releasing him, teams around the league realize it’s only a matter of time before the nine-time Pro Bowl QB gets placed on waivers.

There are a number of possible free agency fits for Wilson this offseason, but there could be a few teams that appeal to the 35-year-old QB more than others. As a team that is never truly out of the race, the Pittsburgh Steelers could be in that mix.

Russell Wilson headed to Pittsburgh Steelers?

According to the latest betting odds from DraftKings, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the current favorites to sign Russell Wilson this offseason.

Steelers fans hoping their team signs Wilson shouldn’t get their hopes up too high. Betting insiders don’t know any more than the general public does, but it’s still a fascinating prospect to think about.

When you finish with the fifth-lowest scoring offense in the NFL, as the Steelers did, changes are needed. Arthur Smith’s arrival as offensive coordinator should help the offense improve, but do the Steelers have a franchise quarterback?

The eye test says no. While Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph both flashed their talent at times, is anyone convinced they could go toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs?

That’s where a player like Wilson could be seen as a revelation in Pittsburgh. Mike Tomlin always has a competent defense, but ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired, the offense hasn’t held up their end of the bargain.

Taking a chance on seeing how much the former Super Bowl winner has in the tank is a low-risk move for the Steelers, especially if he wants to stick it to the Broncos by signing for the veteran minimum, footing Denver with a $38 million bill in 2024.
