WATCH: Pittsburgh Pirates’ Ke’Bryan Hayes misses first base after HR, called out

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at Pittsburgh Pirates

Baseball is a strange game. Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes found that out first hand early on during his team’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday evening.

Hayes took Dodgers starter Walker Buehler deep over the right field fence in the first inning at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. The problem? He missed first base. After the Dodgers challenged the play, Hayes was ultimately called out by umpires on the scene.

It was a sight to behold.

MLB rules clearly state that if a players misses first base while hitting a home run he is out. It’s not a rule that the sports has had to enforce a whole lot for obvious reasons. Ke’Bryan Hayes will not forget about it any time soon.

This is just a continuation of what has been a disastrous season for the Pittsburgh Pirates. They entered Tuesday’s action with a 23-35 record and ranked No. 25 in our most-recent MLB power rankings.
