The Boston Red Sox and pitcher Garrett Richards officially announced a one-year contract Wednesday for the right-hander to call Fenway Park home this season.
The $10 million contract was reportedly agreed upon last month.
Richards, 32, will earn $8.5 million in base salary this season, and there is a $10 million team option for 2022 with a $1.5 million buyout if Boston doesn’t bring him back, according to multiple reports.

The 10-year veteran pitched in 14 games (10 starts) for the San Diego Padres last season and was 2-2 with a 4.03 ERA, striking out 46 over 51 1/3 innings.
Over the course of his career he has dealt with major injuries. He tore his left patellar tendon in 2014, injured his ACL in 2016 and underwent Tommy John surgery in 2018. Injuries and rehab limited him to six games each in 2016 and 2017 and three in 2019.
In eight seasons (2011-18) with the Los Angeles Angels and two with the Padres, he appeared in 187 career games (128 starts), had a 47-41 record, a 3.62 ERA and two saves.
Boston designated right-hander Joel Payamps for assignment to make room on its 40-man roster for Richards.
