MLB dropped a bombshell earlier in the week when it announced that the Oakland Athletics will consider relocation options with a new stadium project in the Northern California city remaining on hold.

It’s been a continuing theme between the A’s and local elected officials in Oakland. An inability to build a new stadium in the city. Said conversations have taken place over the past couple decades without any real progress as it relates to the situation.

Now, it looks like Las Vegas is throwing its proverbial hat into the ring when it comes to a relocation destination for the Oakland Athletics. Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman released a statement via social media on Wednesday indicating that conversations between Vegas, MLB and the A’s have been taking place since 2019.

Las Vegas has always been seen as a potential landing spot for a MLB team. That’s been taken to a whole new level recently given the uptick in population in the desert metropolis coupled with the success of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders and NHL’s Las Vegas Golden Knights.

As for the Oakland Athletics potentially relocating to Las Vegas, it’s something that Major League Baseball had in the past indicated was a real possibility. Their Triple-A team is currently based out of the Vegas suburb of Summerlin, adding even more intrigue to the situation.

This is certainly something to keep an eye on.
